DVD Release: Departures
Today, E1 Films is releasing the beautiful and incredibly moving Japanese film Departures on DVD. The unexpected winner for Best Foreign Language film at last year’s Oscars, this was every bit deserving of the gold. We reviewed the film when it opened in theatres on June 12th, please read our full thoughts on the film here. We all loved it – our consensus was:
“Departures is a beautiful film that will show you the work of art that is the final preparation for departure in Japan. Although the subject matter could have been done in a disturbing manner, it is quite the opposite here. Completely deserving of it’s Best foreign language film Oscar, Departures is a film that is a must see. **** (Out of 4)”
The DVD includes an interview with Director Yôjirô Takita. Included in the case is a very nice catalogue of a selection of E1 Films’ past and present titles. Departures is beautiful film that deals with issues of loss in a very real and incredibly moving way. Please seek it out on DVD.
