Blu-ray Release: Footloose
In honour of the remake opening on October 14th, Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing the original 1984 Footloose on Blu-ray today. The film stars Kevin Bacon as Ren McCormack, a teenager stuck in the town of Bomont where public dancing and rock music have been banned. Determined to make a difference, he stands up to their strict preacher (John Lithgow) as the film builds to a brilliant scene at a community meeting and a finale that makes the audience want to dance right along with the rebellious teenagers.
From the music and vibrant dance sequences, right through to the characters who have to stand up for what they believe in, Footloose was definitive to a whole generation of people. Although some were critical of the film upon initial release, it is widely regarded as a classic of the genre. This year makes it 27 years old, but Footloose still holds up as an energetically entertaining dance movie from the 1980′s.
The Blu-ray includes numerous featurettes with the cast as well as the archival commentary and special features from the DVD release. Also included on specially marked packages is $8 worth of movie cash that can be used towards seeing the remake in theatres.
Footloose is 107 minutes and rated 14A.
