Christmas Countdown: Arthur Christmas (2011)
Every day from December 1st to 24th, we will be counting down to Christmas by profiling holiday classics both old and new. Arranged in chronological order, these are some of our favourites to watch every year. Enjoy!
The 24th and final title on our Christmas Countdown list just so happens to be Arthur Christmas, a modern classic that we reviewed a little over a month ago when it was released in theatres on November 23rd. Beautifully animated by Aardman, Arthur Christmas tells a story that is as wonderfully humerous as it is heartfelt. This is a film filled with the true spirit of the holiday season, and the perfect one to watch for Christmas Eve. Please read our full reviews right here.
Despite the fact that we honoured a whopping two dozen movies and TV specials which you can look over right here, there are still some others that didn’t get their due. To conclude this year’s countdown, here are a selected six others that we think deserve an honourable mention: the sentimental classic The Bells of St. Mary’s (1945), the amusing cartoon Yogi Bear’s All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper (1982), the heartwarming and funny A Garfield Christmas Special (1987), the John Hughes classic Home Alone (1990), the manically entertaining Santa vs. the Snowman (2002) and the more recent A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa (2008). If one of your favourites wasn’t on our list, then please let us know in the comments below. Merry Christmas, everyone!
